Showdown Set for Nov. 24

With victories by Virginia and Virginia Tech Saturday, the stage is set for both teams' last regular season game in Charlottesville. The winner will play in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game — it's that simple.

UVA has a bye in week 12, and the Hokies play against Miami at Lane Stadium. I was impressed by my experience at the Boston College game three weeks ago, and I expect Virginia Tech fans will show no mercy to a Hurricane squad that suffered a 48-0 loss to UVA in its last game at the historic Orange Bowl.

Virginia Tech's 40-21 rout of Florida State was not as staggering as the score suggests, but coach Beamer notched his first win against the Seminoles nonetheless. He is now 1-7 against Florida State.

I'm a bit confused though — with Virginia a half game ahead of the Hokies in the ACC Coastal Division and overall, why is VT four spots ahead of the Cavaliers in the BCS standings?

I think Tech is higher in the BCS because they've had better quality wins, better quality losses, higher strength of schedule, and higher rankings in every single poll. But I think we all know the BCS is flawed; the only way to decide if one team is better than another is a head to head matchup.

Which is why this year's game is awesome. Talk about a playoff system; not only is there a conference championship, but divisional championships in the VT-UVa game and the BC-Clemson game. Could this be the biggest game ever in the history of this rivalry? Maybe even in the history of Scott Stadium?

Virginia Tech lost to teams that were ranked No. 2 at the time, but LSU's 48-7 thrashing of the Hokies shouldn't help their case. Boston College was overrated for the entire year and will notch its third loss this weekend at Clemson.

Virginia's loss to Wyoming was an embarrasment, but since then the Cavaliers have stumbled only once: at NC State, which has won four games straight.

But the fact that there are two de facto "divisional championship" games is great. The Atlantic Division will be decided Saturday, the Coastal Division a week later, and then the ACC champion Dec. 1.

I mean...lets get real jendahl...we all know the hokies don't stand a chance against a team that can put up 48 points at the orange bowl. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure the last time you guys were involved in a game where there were 48 points on one side of the scoreboard you were beaten by almost that many points.

But who knows, I guess it could be a close game? Quite alright cause we DON'T lose close games at home.

Just make sure you guys bring some extra jerseys, and be sure to start Glennon, cause our D ends are comin for you guys and I'd hate to see ya boi Tyrod suffer a career ending injury at such a young age.

You guys are WRONG! This game doesn't mean ANYTHING! All that matters in football is the postseason. Both teams just want to win their bowl games. This is just another game of the season for both VT and UVA. There's no reason to hype this up... you guys are all wrong!
